You have probably heard the term ‘grounding; used throughout your Kundalini Yoga journey. Grounding is the process by which we find balance in our emotional, physical, and spiritual state by enforcing a connection with the Earth.
When we connect with the Earth we find our thoughts and emotions are able to run without inhibition, and our personal and professional lives are able to flourish without the restrictions of anxiety, compulsiveness, or strain.
Grounding can be achieved in multiple ways. Many yogic positions are popular because they connect the body to the Earth through the base of the spine, allowing energy to be exchanged freely.
Consuming plant-based food, walking in the woods and being surrounded by nature, and wiggling your toes in the sand on a beach are all considered by many to be grounding activities. Using essential oils for grounding around the home, on the body, or in meditation practice can aid this process.
Essential oils are derived from plants, often trees, which have a naturally strong connection to the Earth, so it’s not surprising that they are particularly effective at facilitating grounding in their users.
Here are three of the best essential oils for grounding, and some suggestions for how to best harness their potency.
Frankincense
Frankincense’s power lies in its ability to protect and show truth, even in dark and unprecedented times. It can also be used to banish negativity, and help to guide its user when their path is obscured by untruthfulness and lies.
Frankincense is particularly powerful when it comes to spiritual grounding, so consider using frankincense essential oils during meditation practice to aid the energy flow between you and the Earth, and open the mind to honesty and introspection.
Lavender
Lavender is well known for its potent calming effect, often used as a sleep and relaxation aid. Its strength lies in its ability to calm overwhelming emotions, leaving space for clarity and progress.
The deeply floral, woody tones of lavender are particularly effective at grounding the mind and body, facilitating communication with the own heart and with others. Try using lavender essential oil aromatherapy around the home for help with relaxation, and to allow the stresses of life to slip away.
Patchouli
When we experience shame, embarrassment, or judgment we can often feel a sense of disconnect from our own bodies, becoming wrapped up inside ourselves as a form of protection. Patchouli essential oil allows us to reconnect with our body, grounding us and allowing shame to slip away.
Patchouli reminds us that our body is connected to the universe intrinsically, and that we exist above shame and embarrassment. Wear patchouli on the body as a constant reminder of your place in the universe, and derive power from this knowledge.
