The Third Eye is the chakra closely associated with intuition and insight. Located on the forehead, between the eyebrows, it is a mystical, invisible eye. When we work to strengthen and balance this chakra we become perceptive far beyond the power of ordinary sight.
When the Third Eye chakra becomes unbalanced or blocked we can feel disconnected or uninspired, our relationships suffer, and we stop finding joy in the things we love. Some people even report migraines and terrible headaches when their Third Eye chakra is blocked.
This meditation has been designed to help to strengthen the Third Eye, helping to counteract some of these symptoms and welcome intuition back into our lives.
Benefits of this Meditation
- Improves control over emotions
- Brings powerful intuition
- Strengthens the analytical mind
- Reduces anxiety and improves self-trust
How to do this Meditation
This quick meditation only needs to last for 11 minutes, so it’s easy to find the time to include it in your day, but its impact can be profound.
Position: Start by sitting on the floor, on a high-quality yoga mat, in Easy Pose or any other comfortable, cross-legged position. Pull the chin into the body and the chest out.
Ensure that your weight is evenly distributed down the spine and through the hips, pushing levelly through the pelvic bone and into the floor without preference for either side.
Mudra: Lock your little finger against the palm, keeping the other three fingers straight. Rest the bottom outside edge of the hand (below the little fingers) on the knees, allowing the straight fingers to point towards the ground at a 45-degree angle, palms facing in and arms straight.
Tongue: Your tongue should curl backwards on itself, pushing towards the throat and into the roof of the mouth hard. This might take some getting used to, but after a few minutes the forehead should start to feel heavy, and this means that it is the correct positioning.
Eyes: The eyes should focus on the tip of the nose. This is where the “blue pearl” comes in. After a while, a blue circle should become visible under the nose. Keep your focus there.
Meditation: Hold this position for 11 minutes, without losing the focus of the eyes or allowing the tongue to relax. Feel the power of the position of the tongue throughout the whole body, and keep the Blue Pearl in your vision, still and purposeful, for the whole 11 minutes.
To Finish: Inhale powerfully, holding the breath for around 20 seconds while constricting the whole body, before exhaling and repeating this action twice more.
On the final repetition hold the position and tension for so long the body shakes, to allow the energy to flow throughout the body, before exhaling and feeling true relaxation.
The Takeaway
When the Third Eye is blocked or unbalanced we can feel disconnected, unintuitive, stressed and anxious, and it’s essential to work on strengthening and unlocking it. This meditation allows the energy to flow, bringing insight and intuition back and opening up the eye.
