/ Kriya
Reading Time: 12 minutes
As the old saying goes, true beauty does come from within. Though with today’s ever-changing expectations of beauty, remembering this can be hard. It’s easy for our inner critique to take over and we can forget what beauty feels like.
Here’s a kriya used in Kundalini Yoga that can help you re-connect. Practice this kriya to help you feel like the beautiful human being that you are.
Benefits of This Kriya
- Releases tension, allowing the free flow of radiant energy
- Improves concentration and self awareness
- Energizes the body
- Stimulates the pituitary gland, unlocking the brain’s potential
- Encourages a deeper connection to the inner you
How to do This Kriya
This kriya uses a unique set of yogic exercises, which you can develop yourself as you deepen your practice.
First, find a quiet space. Then follow the below sequence, working at a pace that suits you:
Step 1: Prayer Pose
Position
Start by sitting in Easy Pose, or a position that feels comfortable to you, and check that your spine is straight. This prepares you for opening the higher centers.
Mudra
Bring the palms together and place the thumbs at the center of the chest. Next, apply the Neck Lock. Keeping the neck straight, move the neck towards the chest as far as you can, or until your eyes meet the thumbs.
Breath
Breathe in slow, deep breaths. Aim to stay here for six minutes, slowly building up to 11 the more you practice.
Step 2: Celibate Pose
Position
Sit so that your knees are on the ground with the heels either side of the buttocks. Place the hands firmly on top of the knees and widen the space between them. Be sure to keep your back and elbows straight.
Movement
Begin to flex the lower spine backward and forward. Start slow, then aim to repeat this motion as quickly as you can for three minutes. Your back should become quite sweaty. To finish, breathe in and out deeply.
Step 3: Life Nerve Stretch
Posture
Extend the legs out in front of you, keeping the feet together. Take a deep breath in, and as you exhale, stretch the arms out forward and try to touch your toes. Relax here for five minutes.
Step 4: Meditation
Posture
To finish, sit back in Easy Pose or in any position that feels comfortable to you.
Mantra
Feel the vibrational energy flowing through you and focus on your inner world. When you feel ready, chant a mantra of your choice. This can be any mantra that inspires you, or a simple affirmation to yourself. Continue for three to 11 minutes.
The Takeaway
The key to this kriya is taking your time, as you allow yourself to look and feel inward.
Allow the kriya to re-connect you to the flow of universal energy that surrounds you. As you begin to feel its euphoric effects, you may realize that the beauty lying within you has been there all along.
