How to do this Meditation
Before you get started with this meditation, lay down a high-quality yoga mat and create a quiet space. When you are ready to begin, follow these steps:
Step one: Position
Get started by sitting on your mat and assuming Easy Pose. If you are not comfortable with this position, pick any seated one that suits you. Ensure your back is straight and then apply a gentle Neck Lock.
Step two: Hand position
Next, you should move your hands so that they are resting on your lap. Turn your palms to face upward and allow your right hand to sit on top of your left. Your thumbs can touch.
Step three: Eye position
Your eyes should be closed throughout the entirety of this Kundalini Yoga meditation practice. You should move your energy to the space between your eyebrows and your nose. Focus all of your attention on the Brow Point.
Step four: Breathing
Unlike in other meditation practices, the way that you breathe does not matter here. Relax your breath and allow it to flow naturally in and out of your resting body.
Step five: Chanting
When you are ready to get started, chant “Wahe Guru” repeatedly. It should sound like “ Whaa Hay Gu Roo.” Spell it out as you are chanting this beloved mantra verse.
The mantra is in Sanskrit. In English, it translates as “ecstasy in the light of the Lord which takes you away from the darkness”. Pay attention to the meaning as you chant.
Step six: Let go of tension
If you want to gain the full benefits of this meditation practice, the secret is to let go of all of your tension. Your body needs to be entirely relaxed so that you can feel its rewards.
While you may be feeling stressed or under pressure, it is important to allow your muscles to rest. Many of us have a hard time doing this. Take away any tension that you have.
The goal of this meditation is to enter a new dimension of consciousness — to reach your higher self. However, your lower self will attempt to fight against this at every turn. You may find that you experience pain or discomfort before you are able to press onward.
Step seven: Finish
Continue with the above meditative practice for a total of 11 minutes. When you have done so, breathe in and then out completely. Draw your hands into fists and then open and close them seven times. Massage their palms to encourage good circulation.
