Learning the art of Kundalini Yoga is an ongoing journey. As you get started, you will engage in effective kriyas. While these are powerful enough on their own, you can enhance their benefits by readying yourself in advance. Let’s take a look at how you can prepare for a Kundalini Yoga kriya.
#1 Create a comfortable space
First things first, you need to create a space in which it is comfortable to practice. You may want to dedicate a quiet corner of your home to your kriyas, for example. Pick a space that suits you and your needs.
When you’ve done that, cozy the area up with some essentials. You may find that it’s helpful to have a cushion (or a few!) on the floor near you. Equally, you can put a blanket on the floor to ensure that you’re comfortable.
#2 Eat something small first
When we talk about how to prepare for a kriya, you should never overlook your basic needs. Making sure that you eat something light ahead of your practice will help enhance the experience.
You should have a snack between two and three hours before you engage in a Kundalini Yoga kriya. Opt for something wholesome, plant-based and healthy. For example, you may want to have a delicious smoothie.
#3 Make sure you hydrate
Hydration is a serious issue. Some of the more intense kriyas will take up a lot of energy. For that reason, you need to make sure that you have had enough water before you get started. Additionally, you should have a bottle of water near you when you are practicing so you can drink it whenever you feel thirsty.
#4 Dress in loose-fitting clothes
You may already be aware of the importance of white clothing in Kundalini Yoga. However, you should also ensure that you wear loose-fitting clothes as well when you’re practicing a kriya. There are plenty of options out there, and so it’s worth shopping around and seeing which ones suit you.
Choose clothes in which you can move around easily, without feeling restricted in any way. You may want to try on certain pieces and see how loose they are. The more movement you have, the better your kriya will be.
#5 Only wear natural fibers
While we’re on the topic of clothing, it’s crucial that you opt for natural fibers. Many modern-day garments are a blend of synthetic materials. That’s fine for day-to-day wear. However, whenever possible, you may want to choose clothing that is 100% natural and comfortable for you.
#6 Tune in with a quick mantra
Ahead of engaging in a Kundalini Yoga kriya, why not tune in with a quick mantra? There are plenty of options you can try. For example, the Ong Namo Guru Dev Namo chant tends to work well. Before you dive into your exercise set, you may find that this practice helps you to get into the right mindset.
