1. Make sure that you warm up first
You already know that warming up is important when you’re practicing yoga. When you’re helping your kids do it, the same rules apply. Before you get started, do a quick warm up activity with your children. This move will help them get into the right mindset to start out.
2. Keep the exercise sets short and sweet
As we have already covered, children tend to have short attention spans. If the yoga exercises are not engaging, you will find that they lose interest quickly. That’s bad news.
To make sure that doesn’t happen, you should pick Kundalini Yoga exercises that are short. For example, if you are picking a kriya, select one that is just a few minutes long.
3. Ensure that there is time for rest too
Do your children start to squirm and move around? If the answer is yes, you need to change your approach. Incorporating some rest time into this learning process is a must.
You may want to break up kriya sets with a break for a minute or so. Figure out what works best for your little ones. The older your kids are, the longer they can practice yoga.
4. Try making it into a game
Are your kids looking bored? If you are trying to teach young children how to do yoga, you might find that they lose interest fast. Should that be the case, you need to make it into a game. Kids love to play! Tell them that you are playing a quick game and show them how.
5. Add some visualization into the mix
Let your children’s imagination run wild for a moment. Kids love to play pretend. Luckily, you can incorporate this into your Kundalini Yoga with some meditative visualization tasks.
6. Tell them “well done!”
You should never underestimate the power of positive reinforcement. When you’re teaching your kids about yoga, you need to figuratively pat them on the back. You can do this by saying “well done” or even “you’re doing so well” while they are doing it.
