If you have recently experienced a loss, you may want to learn this simple and effective tool. You can use the Akaal chant whenever you need to do so. Tapping into the divine technology of sound currents, this is a powerful and cathartic practice you can try.
It is believed that the soul is passing smoothly through a passage. By chanting and meditating together, we can be sure that the soul will encounter no barriers along the way. As the soul moves, it will have the freedom to pass on without any obstacles. The chant has the power to break down boundaries and make a clear route for the soul.
How to Use Akaal Meditation
When a person who we are close to passes on, we chant the word Akaal three times. This word translates simply as ‘undying’. Within the realms of Kundalini Yoga, we believe that chanting this sacred word three times gives peace and brings the person to eternal rest.
As we use it, we are referring to the person’s soul, which is now being released. It is believed that the sound current guides the soul away from the worldly realm and into Akaal Purakh (translating as ‘Undying Being’). Here’s how to use
Posture
Start by sitting in Easy Pose, or any position that feels comfortable to you. Close your eyes and begin to relax.
Chant
When you are comfortable, you should begin to chant the mantra ‘Akaal’ (pronounced ‘uh-call’). Follow the recording of Sat Nam Kaur to help you.
As you first start to chant, take a full, deep breath. You should chant the mantra for the extended length of that breath.
Keep in mind that the first syllable—’uh’—is short and the second one flows out naturally for the remainder of your breath. Maintain a comfortable monotone throughout.
Complete the chant three times while following the rhythm of the song.
Extra tip
Within Kundalini Yoga tradition, we engage in the Akaal meditation for 17 days after a loved one has passed on. This helps their soul have a smooth transition to the ether.
The Takeaway!
When you lose someone close to you, you will find it hard to carry on. It’s hard to imagine this period if you have not gone through it personally. However, by tapping into this ancient tradition, you can bring their soul peace and yourself comfort.
