The modern world is never at peace. Wars, pandemics, climate change, and poverty are the strongest themes of the Aquarian Age. As we navigate these challenging times, it can be hard to have an optimistic outlook. The tragedies that surround us mar our existence.
The question on everybody’s lips is: How can we come together as humanity? How can we work as one miraculous force to change things for the better? While there is no straightforward answer, the truth is that this change starts from within. In line with the age-old teachings of Kundalini Yoga, you first have to be at peace with yourself.
What is True Peace?
True peace may seem intangible. While many people wish for this transformation, few of us understand what it would mean. We might be under the impression that policy change, new leaders, and protests in the streets will help us get there. These may all be steps on the journey, but they are not where true peace begins. Instead, it comes from each of us.
Should we lust after change in the world, we need to accept that we must change ourselves. That is hard for many of us to stomach. You may get so wrapped up in the idea of your personality identity that the notion of change is difficult to understand. However, it is only when we allow ourselves to become more fluid that we can make the right choices.
The Negative Power of Shadows
To start this journey, we have to come to a level of peace with ourselves. If we are at war with our own minds, there is simply no way that we can heal those around us. War divides humanity in every possible way — it is about projecting one shadow group onto another.
We each have shadows in the deepest, darkest parts of ourselves. These are the feelings and thoughts that we have repressed from early childhood. They are the ugly parts that you try to hide from the world around you. However, the more you ignore them, the more these qualities become a stable part of yourself and you can no longer fight them.
When we have not healed, we are constantly fighting with ourselves. Every part of our life — our work, our spirituality, our relationships — will become a battle. We are fighting with our shadows and, in turn, we are also fighting with one another. The negativity that we have inside is cat onto each new person that we meet, bringing them down with us.
The Answer: Taking Responsibility
The answer to creating harmony, both within yourself and the world around you, is taking responsibility. When you start to own your emotions and shadows, you can rid yourself of them. Rather than projecting them onto the people around you, you can challenge them.
As a society, we each have a responsibility to do this internal work. When we do, we can be sure that we are no longer creating problems in the world around us. Instead, we are only contributing positivity and light, which can turn into peace like no other.
The Takeaway
No matter where you are on your journey, this ethos can help you progress. Whether you’re working with incense, meditating, or practicing kriyas, you should have this work in mind. If we each find our inner peace, it can help to transform the entire world.
