/ Meditation
Reading Time: 7 minutes
Do you ever find your mind swimming with possibilities, but something is holding you back from pursuing them? Maybe you have fantastic ideas for professional projects, home renovations, or exciting vacations?
Or do you find yourself jumping into projects without giving enough thought to the consequences? Are you prone to taking leaps of faith that don’t always pay off?
Meditation for effective action helps to balance these aspects of our mind, allowing us to fulfill the incredible ideas that our imagination conjures without the anxiety of “am I good enough?”, or becoming overwhelmed by distracting thoughts. Instead it brings the wisdom and foresight to make sound judgements, and feel confident in these decisions.
Benefits of this Meditation
The benefits of this easy meditation fall into two categories: confidence, and caution.
On one hand, it allows us to feel empowered to follow our dreams, without becoming bogged down in risks and ‘what ifs’, but on the other hand it encourages us to look before we leap, carefully considering every aspect of a project before we take the plunge.
Other meditation benefits for this particular practice include:
- Increase in professional confidence
- Improved project management and timekeeping
- Confidence in decision making and leadership
- Faith in the ability to say “no” to things which do not align with us
- Boost in productivity and quality use of time
How to do the Meditation for Effective Action
Posture:
Start by sitting in the meditative pose, ensuring you are comfortable in whichever way your body sees fit. Bend the arms in front of you at a 90 degree angle, so the forearms are parallel with the floor and your palms are facing.
Eyes:
Look down the nose with the eyes open approximately one tenth.
Mantra:
Chant the following mantra:
Har har har har gobinday
Har har har har mukanday
Har har har har udaaray
Har har har har apaaray
Har har har har hareeang
Har har har har kareeang
Har har har har nimaamay
Har har har har akaamay
Movement:
On each chant of har quickly pull the hands in towards each other, and back out again. This movement should be around six inches each time. Hold the hands still for the sounds following har.
This action should be quick and firm, showing intent and strength, but maintaining rhythm. Do not be tempted to speed up and lose the power or control.
Continue this action for 31 minutes
To Finish:
Inhale through the nose, deeply and with intent. Tighten the forearms, hands, and fingers, holding tension in them and moving the eyes upwards to focus at the brow.
Exhale this held breath powerfully through the open mouth, and repeat this action three times.
Then breathe calmly, relax, and go about your day with renewed peace and confidence.
The Takeaway
This easy meditation is a great addition to the repertoire of any Kundalini Yoga student for focusing the mind, enabling us to take effective action without getting overwhelmed by distracting thoughts throughout the day.
