Our digestive health is essential, not just to get the nutrients our body needs, but also to combat aging, boost energy, and even lift the mood. Eating a balanced diet is the first step towards this goal, but sometimes our body needs a helping hand to promote digestive health.
If you eat healthily and stay hydrated, but are still wondering how to boost digestion, we’ve got you covered. Here’s how to do the Apana Kriya to improve your digestive health.
How to do this Kriya
This kriya is powerful, effective, and easy to practice. You don’t need any special level of expertise to understand it. To get started, follow these steps:
Start by sitting in Easy Pose, or whatever position you find natural and comfortable, with your hands resting on the knees.
Purse the lips, drawing as much air as possible into the stomach using short, repetitive sips, as if drinking water from a cup.
Pull in the stomach and hold the breath, rolling the stomach to the left. When the breath has been held to its limit, roll the stomach to the right.
Continue rolling the stomach to the left and right, with the neck held in Neck Lock, until the breath can be held no longer.
At this point, straighten the spine and exhale slowly and gently through the nose.
Repeat this exercise twice more, always on an empty stomach and no more than twice a day. Try to do this daily for maximum impact.
