As the festive season begins, it’s a time for reflection and gratitude. The new year is just around the corner and it could be time for many of us to make some positive changes. Let’s take a look at some of the most pertinent Kundalini Yoga lessons we can learn.
#1 Love Yourself and Those Around You
Learning to love yourself is an ongoing life lesson. In the modern world, we are faced with so much insecurity and doubt. From magazines to social media, the messages that we receive are clear from all angles: we are not enough, and perhaps never will be.
That is a false narrative and one you can change. You are already enough. Understanding that and taking it in will change your perspective on your identity. The truth of the matter is that you are deserving of love and respect—and that starts from within.
When you’ve learned to love yourself, that is a joy that you can spread to the people around you. You have to first make yourself vulnerable so that you can make this change. Dedicating time and energy to caring about your friends and family makes a huge impact.
#2 Start to Rid Yourself of Your Ego
Chances are, your ego is holding you back. Many of us hide behind this mask on a day-to-day basis, and it becomes more necessary when we struggle with our self-esteem. If you find that you are presenting a fake version of yourself, it’s time to make a change.
Within your Kundalini Yoga journey, there are plenty of ways that you can start ridding yourself of your ego. For example, you may choose to practice certain kriyas—such as the ego eradicator set—or simply enhance your meditation practice.
As you let go of your ego, you will start to develop a new perspective on life. Many people find that this process allows them to better understand the people that matter the most.
#3 Find Your Inner Calm
When you reflect back on 2021, what words spring to mind? This year may have been filled with uncertainty. For that reason, few people would describe it as calm. However, as you move through your Kundalini Yoga journey, you will learn to foster a zen-like attitude.
While you cannot change the storm that moves around you, you are in complete control of your inner world. Maintaining a level of peace no matter what is happening means that you are better equipped to deal with any of the obstacles that life throws your way next year.
#4 Every Person’s Journey is Unique
Starting out with Kundalini Yoga is an individual process. However, it’s important that you don’t compare yourself to others around you during this time. One of the biggest lessons you will learn here is that each person’s journey is unique to them.
You should take things at a pace that suits both your outlook and your lifestyle. In doing so, you are being kind to yourself and never rushing the journey that lies ahead of you.
