When you’ve got a huge decision to make, you may feel as though your mind is cloudy. The confusion of your thoughts makes it hard to decide what to do. Fortunately enough, there’s one Kundalini Yoga practice that might help you along the way.
Learning how meditation can help you make decisions and clear your mental state is a smart move. Let’s take a look at everything you need to know here.
How Meditation Clears Your Mind
New research from the Association for Psychological Science suggests that engaging in mindfulness meditation could be the answer. The study found that when participants took part in a 15-minute practice, they felt clearer and were able to make smarter decisions.
“Most people have trouble admitting they were wrong when their initial decisions lead to undesirable outcomes,” said researcher Andrew Hafenbrack and lead author.
“They don’t want to feel wasteful or that their initial investment was a loss. Ironically, this kind of thinking often causes people to waste or lose more resources in an attempt to regain their initial investment or try to ‘break-even.'”
While we may not realize it, many of us could be continuing in bad habits even though we know they are harming us. You may find that you distract yourself by staying busy, for example, or ignore red flags simply because they are inconvenient to your lifestyle.
“We found that a brief period of mindfulness meditation can encourage people to make more rational decisions by considering the information available in the present moment, while ignoring some of the other concerns that typically exacerbate the ‘sunk cost bias,'” said Hafenbrack.
How to Boost Your Meditation
Now that you understand how to make better decisions by meditating, what are the next steps? Taking the time to boost the amount of mindfulness and meditation you engage in could be the answer. Here are some of the easiest ways you can get started:
Listen to your inner voice
When you’re starting out with meditation, simple practices could make all the difference. Try stopping for a minute and listening to your inner voice. This trick will help you to become more mindful and take note of how your emotions influence you.
Try a three-minute meditation
Super busy? No trouble. You can fit meditation into your daily routine regardless of how much you have on your plate. One way to get started is to try a three-minute meditation. There are plenty from which to choose, all of which will provide you some great benefits.
Use powerful mantras
Aside from meditating, you may want to include powerful mantras in your everyday life. For example, the ‘I am’ mantra is an effective chant that you can incorporate into your routine. You may want to repeat this while you are being mindful, for example.
