/ Kriya
Reading Time: 10 minutes
If you are feeling powerless, like nothing is working for you and the world is running away without you, it is time to engage the Chii Kriya for protection.
This powerful kriya draws upon the strength of the cosmos through the use of a fundamental mantra, bringing your own soul in line with the vibrations of the universe.
The mantra that accompanies this kriya has six simple, but utterly fundamental sounds: har, hare, haree, wah, hay, guru. Put simply, these are the four compass points, plus up, and down.
The basic nature of this mantra focuses on our position within the cosmos. It grounds us down into the Earth, but evokes power from every direction around us. Its strength is in its absolute simplicity, and deep connection with the universe.
Its accompanying movement set draws on these principles, grounding us and reaching in every direction. It also utilises the gyan mudra, which draws on the planet Jupiter to bring strength, leadership, and stimulates the first chakra.
Benefits of this Kriya
The Chii Kriya’s main benefit is protection. It helps to create an impenetrable barrier of positive energy around the body, stopping negativity in its tracks. But what are some of the fringe benefits of this set?
- Optimism for the future and its possibilities
- A greater self-confidence
- Space to grow and flourish
- Purifies your energy
- Stronger connection to the vibrations of the universe
- Improved concentration
How to do this Kriya
Start this Kundalini Yoga kriya by sitting in Easy Pose, or in any position you find comfortable with crossed legs, and close the eyes. Touch your index finger to your thumb in the Gyan Mudra, keeping the other fingers relaxed.
Use the tip of the tongue to chant the following mantra, following these arm movements:
Step 1:
Chant: Har. Stretch your arms to your sides with your palms facing forwards, keeping the arms straight
Step 2:
Chant: Hare (haray). Bring the hands in line with the waist, moving them directly in front of the body with palms facing down, forearms pointing straight forwards and elbows at right-angles
Step 3:
Chant: Haree. Pull the hands towards the shoulders with the palms facing out
Step 4:
Chant: Wah. Stretch the arms back to the sides
Step 5:
Chant: Hay. Bring your arms directly out in front of the body, with palms facing down
Step 6:
Chant: Guru. Bring the hands up near the shoulders again
Continue this kriya for 11 minutes, maintaining the chant on the tip of the tongue.
To finish:
Inhale and hold the breath, maintaining position six, pulling the spine upwards and engaging the rib cage. Exhale, and repeat twice more.
Take time afterwards to mindfully consider your position within the universe. Feel the ground below you, and the space above you, and manifest the power that this brings you.
The Takeaway
Learning the Chii Kriya and mantra is straightforward with a little practice, but its results could change your world. So why not give this movement set a go today and see how it could benefit you?
