Welcome to the world of meditation. This powerful Kundalini Yoga practice can enhance all areas of your modern lifestyle. However, before you get started with this sacred and functional practice, you need to know the basic guidelines. Luckily, we’ve got you covered. Here are five of the simple things you should keep in mind when you meditate.
1. Meditate at any hour of day
Meditation is a highly personal experience. With that in mind, you have the chance to choose when it suits you. Many Kundalini Yoga students prefer to meditate during the ambrosial hours—that’s around two and a half hours before the sun rises.
The beauty of meditation is that you’re free to do it whenever you please. You may choose to take a quick break from work to meditate, or do it at the same time each day.
2. Find a space that suits you
Ahead of starting your session, you will need to find a space in which to meditate. While there are no strict rules here, you should select an area that is quiet and peaceful.
When you meditate, you will need to tune into the practice completely. For that reason, you should avoid all distractions. Choose a place in your home—or elsewhere—where you can be alone and have the space that you need to entirely unwind.
3. Set your intention first of all
Before you meditate, you need to set your intention. That is what you hope to achieve from the practice. For example, you may engage in a meditation to relieve stress or a session that will help you let go of your anger. Be clear about what you hope to gain.
Feeling creative? You may find that the intention is stronger if you write it down. Many Kundalini Yoga students write their end goals down on paper before they meditate. Alternatively, you may choose to keep a journal and write each of your intentions in it.
4. Focus on all of your senses
Ready to start meditating? When you engage in a session, be sure to focus your energy on your senses. In particular, you should pay attention to your eye focus and breathing.
Breathwork is an integral part of the mediation process. You will start to learn this as you move through your Kundalini Yoga journey. Don’t worry. It’s not hard to get started. For each meditation, there are clear instructions on how you should breathe throughout.
5. Practice on a daily basis
Are you new to the realms of meditation? The most effective way to learn this art form is to practice on a daily basis. Setting aside some time each day could afford you countless benefits including enhanced mindfulness, better health, and relaxation to boot.
Don’t worry if you only have a few minutes to spare. As you will learn, there are plenty of sessions that take no time at all. Go ahead and have some ‘you time’. Making space for this self-care routine is an investment in your future wellness and happiness.
