First things first, you may be wondering what the chakras are. The simplest way to understand the chakras is to think of them as the energy systems of the body.
While the physical body has layers — such as skin, muscle, and bone — so does the energy body. These include our emotions, our spiritualism, and our mental state.
The chakras make up the core energy system of the body. Each of them relates to a specific color, vibe, and an energy frequency. Energy flows through them. However, when one of them is blocked, you will find that it affects you both mentally and emotionally.
Luckily, you can unblock the chakras through a series of holistic and self-actualization activities. Within this quick guide, we will look at the eight chakras of Kundalini Yoga.
1st Chakra: Root Chakra
The first chakra — also known as the root chakra — is strongly related to the color red. It’s all about feeling secure, and grounded in your earthly body. When the first chakra is blocked, you are likely to experience feelings of anxiety, insecurity, and depression.
2nd Chakra: Sex Organs
Related to the color orange, the second chakra is located in the sexual organs. As you might imagine, this chakra is about sexuality and creativity. Should you find that the second chakra is blocked, you will find that you are angry, infuriated, or afraid.
3rd Chakra: Navel Point
The third chakra — or the Navel Point — is associated with the color yellow. It is located between the sternum and the navel and is related to your will-power and motivation. However, when the third chakra is blocked, you may lack the courage to chase dreams.
4th Chakra: Heart Center
The Heart Center — or the fourth chakra — is located at the center of the body, near your physical heart. It is related to independence, love, and your sense of self-esteem. If you find that the fourth chakra is blocked, you will find it hard to be compassionate to others.
5th Chakra: Throat Center
Associated with your ability to communicate, express yourself, and have interactions, the fifth chakra is a powerful entity. Also known as the throat chakra, it is related to the color blue and purification. If it is blocked, you may be bitter and find it hard to speak to people.
6th Chakra: Third Eye Point
The sixth chakra — or the Third Eye Point — is tied to the color indigo. It is also related to your powers of imagination, dreaming, and perception. When people have a blocked sixth chakra, they find it hard to think, may experience confusion, and have regular nightmares.
7th Chakra: Crown Chakra
Known by the color violet and located at the top of the head, we have the seventh chakra or the Crown Chakra. It is all about your worldly thoughts, understanding, and information. If the seventh chakra is blocked, you have a closed mind and find it hard to think straight.
8th Chakra: Electromagnetic Field
While other forms of yoga tend not to recognize the eighth chakra, it plays an important role in Kundalini Yoga. It is also known as the electromagnetic field and is known by the color white. If it’s in balance, you will have protection against negative energies.
Conclusion
Understanding the eight chakras in Kundalini Yoga is important to your practice. There are different ways you can balance these chakras and keep them clear. Ensuring that you tend to them in your everyday routine will make a major difference to your life and outlook.
