Looking for a simple way to balance each of your chakras? You’re in luck. The world of Kundalini Yoga has the technology you need. Within this guide, we will take a look at the main yoga poses that align with each of the chakras. Here’s what you need to know.
Root Chakra Poses
The root chakra is related to the earth. For that reason, the yoga poses that balance this chakra help you ground yourself. When you are feeling out of touch with yourself, you may find the following poses effective:
Mountain Pose (Tadasana): When you engage in mountain pose, you start to feel more connected to the earth. Your feet and thighs engage as you stand strong!
Tree Pose (Vrikshasana): Creating a stable foundation, this pose is all about firmly pressing down and centering your weight to the ground, much like a tree.
Downward Facing Dog (Adho Mukha Svanasana): As you bend forward to complete this pose, you will find that you create a solid base and ground yourself.
Sacral Chakra Poses
Next up, the sacral chakra is closely related to our sexual needs and desires. Much like the natural movement of water, this energy ebbs and flows smoothly. If you would like to balance this chakra, you should try the following poses:
Bound Angle Pose (Baddha Konasana): This yogic pose helps to relieve any back pain that you are experiencing while also stimulating your pelvic region.
Goddess Pose (Utkata Konasana): Effortlessly working your quads, glutes, and cores, this strong yogic pose helps to give you a sexual energy boost too.
Pigeon Pose (Eka Pada Rajakapotasana): This yogic pose releases both emotional and sexual blockages, especially those in the sacral chakra area.
Solar Plexus Chakra Poses
Located in the upper abdomen, the solar plexus relates to your sense of personal power. When this is out of balance, you may have low self-esteem and confidence levels. Luckily, there are some simple yogic poses you can use to help:
Plank Pose (Phalakasana): Working your core and abdomen, the plank pose can be hard to master. However, it offers heat that radiates through the body.
Bow Pose (Dhanurasana): Looking for a way to strengthen the back and stretch the abdominal muscles? The bow pose helps you increase your power overall.
Warrior II (Virabhadrasana II): Boost your confidence and get that fiery energy in your life with the well-known Warrior II yoga pose.
Heart Chakra Poses
Linked to your emotions — particularly romance and love — the heart chakra plays a vital role in your body. It is associated with feelings of compassion and empathy. Should you feel out of balance, try the following poses:
Camel Pose (Ustrasana): This deep stretch opens both the chest and shoulder area. The backbend can be highly effective in balancing the heart chakra.
Dancers’ Pose (Natarajasana): One of the most graceful poses, this one directly impacts the heart chakra. Add some balance to your life with this position.
Wheel Pose (Urdhva Dhanurasana): If you’ve been practicing Kundalini Yoga for a matter of years, you can try the wheel pose. It brings a sense of compassion.
Throat Chakra Poses
Also known as Vishuddha in Sanskrit, this chakra sits at the base of the throat. It is all about the ability to express yourself, particularly verbally. When it is out of balance, you may feel stumped. In that case, try some of the following yogic poses:
Fish Pose (Matsyasana): Getting rid of any stagnant energy and stretching out the throat muscles, the fish pose will help to balance your throat chakra in no time.
Lion Pose (Simhasan): One of the variations of the cow pose, the lion pose is powerful and effective. It stretches the throat pose and releases any negativity.
Plow Pose (Halasana): If you have an overactive throat chakra, you should try this pose. It actually has the power to compress the throat muscles in minutes.
Third Eye Chakra Poses
The third eye is perhaps the most famous chakra. It is all about your sense of intuition and imagination. You can find it between your eyebrows. When it is out of balance, you will start to feel less in touch with your power. Try the following yogic poses:
Puppy Pose (Uttana Shishosana): This particular yogic pose targets both the third eye and the heart chakra at the same time. Try it for yourself.
Child’s Pose (Balasana): If you’re looking for a gentle pose that also targets the third eye, this is the one for you. It’s easy to get your head around at any point.
Thunderbolt Pose (Vajrasana): Traditionally a meditation pose, this one is effective when you focus all of your energy on the location of your third eye.
Crown Chakra Poses
Right at the top of your head, your crown chakra plays an important role in your cosmic journey. The chakra is said to be the link between our earthly bodies and the universal power. When it is not quite in balance, you can use the following positions to help:
Headstand (Sirsasana): Allowing both the blood and your energy flow to rush to the top of your head, a headstand can be remarkably powerful at unblocking things.
Rabbit Pose (Sasakasana): Connecting your head to the ground, the rabbit pose has the ability to help you release any negative energy from your crown chakra.
Corpse Pose (Savasana): Bringing you quickly into a meditative state, the corpse pose can allow you to open up the crown chakra. Try it when you need to do so.
Electromagnetic Field Chakra Poses
Within the realms of Kundalini Yoga, the eighth chakra is the aura or the electromagnetic field. When this is out of balance, you will take on all the negativity that surrounds you. Should you wish to strengthen it, try the following yoga positions:
Triangle Push-Ups: Creating an upside down triangle with your body, this movement helps to exaggerate and strengthen your auric field.
Arm Pumps: Engaging in arm pumps increases energy and gives you the opportunity to enhance your auric connection and electromagnetic field.
Easy Pose & Arm Swings: Sitting in Easy Pose, of a position that feels right to you, and engaging in arm swings could have a positive effect on your aura.
